5 Tips for Avoiding Credit Repair Service Scams

by Richard Lakin

If you want to restore your credit, then you should keep some things in your mind. Contrary to the rosy picture given by such service providers, repairing your credit is not an overnight job. If your credit score is bad, organizations that promise to fix your credit score may have called. These credit repair services will not be any help to you. Below are 5 methods to determine if a scam credit repair service is attempting to fool you.

An Advanced Results Guarantee

Avoid any advanced results guaranteed by the company which doesn't bother to look at your unique situation before it offers you that guarantee. Simply put, these are the people who will tell you whatever it is that you want to hear and then run off with your money in the end. It may be pleasant to hear the good tidings from a credit repair service but you just cannot decide on such services that make a grand promise with nothing to back it up. Often this is a warning sign that a company is not as legitimate as it may have seemed at first.

Requires a Large Up-Front Payment

If a company asks you to pay them up front, then you should be very concerned about their validity. This is even truer for those scam credit repair services that want a large payment before they will even begin. It is not a happy thought, but there are people out there who are looking to pull the wool over your eyes. If they can do that under the veil of repairing credit, then they will hold no punches. Before you dedicate a large portion of your money to a scam credit repair service up front, you should consult other credit repair help options.

Changing your Identification Numbers

If a credit repair service comes to you and makes promises of improving your credit score by giving you're a brand new identity, you should run far away. These companies will often try to tell you that they can help you by giving you a brand new social security number or a tax identification number. Not only will this not help repair your credit, but it is also a crime. You can get into big trouble messing around with those sorts of numbers.

They Contacted You

Don't expect a company that advertises with spam email to be reputable. Credit repair services that do not attempt to engage your business via spam are far more likely to provide you with reputable service.

Use your Common Sense

If it doesn't feel right, then there is a strong possibility that it is not right. Common sense should guide the majority of your financial decisions and this one is no different. You should know, at this point, what a legitimate business looks like and what a scam looks like. If you start to feel uncomfortable at any point during your interaction with a given company, then it is time to look in another direction.

Understanding a 3 in 1 Credit Report

by Richard Lakin

When it comes to your credit, more is not always better. Many individuals have received a 3 in 1 credit report, which fails to provide the necessary detail to help you fix your credit. A 3 in 1 credit report is basically a combined report from all three credit reporting agencies - TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. You are required to one free credit report every year, so these agencies have teamed together to encourage consumers to get all the information in one report. Though it might sound good on paper, this actually leaves you with less information than you need.

Credit Rating Agency

A credit rating agency is a company that assigns credit ratings for issuers of certain types of debt obligations. A credit rating measures credit worthiness, the ability to pay back a loan, and affects the interest rate applied to loans.

Disadvantages of 3 in 1 credit reporting

Accepting a 3 in 1 credit report limits the provided information that would come with individual credit reports. This in effect, simplifies the data collection and you are not burdened with all the specifics from each credit report that would be needed in to facilitate credit repair. This means you won't have the individual details from each credit report that are important in helping you to improve your credit score.

What exactly is the purpose of a 3 in 1 credit report?

The 3 in 1 credit reports looks like a very good plan in theory but in practice it does not work out. The original goal, however, was to make it easier for customers to process the information. The combined report is supposed to give a snapshot of your credit score and thus do away with the need to peruse three different reports. Never cut corners when it comes to your credit because you're going to need all the information to restore your credit.

What is my alternative?

You have probably been offered a 3 in 1 credit report since they are often offered, but hopefully you opted not to get one. Just because the 3 in 1 Credit Report is being pressed, doesn't mean you can't opt for the original single version of credit reports. They allow you to look at each item individually. You will be able to trace any errors on your credit report and start a plan to raise your credit score.

Further, these agencies are required to give you one credit report for free each year, so you have nothing to lose. Having all of this documentation for your files is important, as well. Being able to pick out specifics instead of having to read through merged information in a 3 in 1 credit report will help save you from any mistakes that might occur. After all, this information is the life blood of your financial future and without a clear picture of what is going on; you will have a hard time making it better.

You can raise credit score by 259 pts. Clean up credit report now

by Choice Harris

Excellent! You stopped by to read this short article. First let me introduce myself. My birth name is Choice; unusual I know. I've always been just a regular person. I'm from a small town in Alabama. I'm here to show you a real life way to clean up credit.

You are going to get a lot of valuable information from me in a way you can understand and act upon. I'm not a credit repair specialist or attorney. I won't talk over your head to try and impress you. It's time to get the truth about how to clean up credit in everyday language.

Be kind to me because this is my very first article. Thank you, thank you very much. At the end of all this you will have learned way more than you need to know in order to improve your credit and raise your credit score.

Anyway let's talk about credit bureaus and what they're all about. Basically they're all about money. The fact that they have ruined lives, marriages and families doesn't seem to carry much weight. They are just big business, plain and simple.

You see the way it works is that most everybody you do business with reports your payment history (good or bad), to the credit bureaus. The credit bureaus charge them a fee to put your information on their files. The credit bureaus just accept what they say about you without any investigation at all, because they're getting paid.

All this information the credit bureaus compile on you is put into a credit report. It shows how you pay your bills, if you are in bankruptcy, any law suits or tax liens, and so forth and so on.

In a sense they tell your life's story, which much of the time the information isn't 100% true. But that doesn't seem to matter to them because it's all about the money they make reporting on you.

The credit bureaus sell your information to creditors, insurers, employers, and more people than you can imagine. Those people then use it to evaluate you for credit, insurance, employment or renting a home…you name it.

How many times have you heard that only time can clean up credit? That there is nothing you can do about your bad credit report? I tell you, you can do something about it. I did and that is the TRUTH.

You see if there is any inaccuracy in the way they report on you, then you have a case. They have to be 100% correct on all levels. Did you know that? There is the Fair Credit Reporting Act that protects you against the credit bureaus.

So as we go forward in these articles we're going to credit war to clean up credit for you. The very first thing we'll do is show you how to get your free credit report and then stop those phone calls from harassing you.

You're going to love that; no more harassing phone calls from collection agencies. Oh what a relief it is.

Stay tuned… Choice Harris

Today, having a good credit score means alot. I assure you a good credit score will make your life more comfortable and easy. This is why many people work diligently to maintain a good credit score.

—– The Benefits of a Good Credit Score —–

Here are some benefits of having a good credit score:

* it can increase your chances of getting a loan approved

* it will keep your interest rate low on car loans, mortgages etc.

* the lower interest rate will save you tens of thousands of dollars in interest

* it will even help you get certain jobs because many companies today do financial background checks

What if you are plagued with a poor credit rating, how can you fix your credit score? First, you need to act quickly before your credit score becomes even worse so you won't miss out on any opportunities that may come along.

Repairing your bad credit score will take patience and a little bit of luck.

—– Effective Ways to Fix Your Credit Score —–

The first thing to do to help your credit score is to cut the sources of negative credit reports. By doing so, you will be well on your way to improving your credit score.

You can do this by getting current with your outstanding debts. This won't improve your credit rating but it will stop it from getting any worse. The next step is to look for ways to make some positive reports to the credit bureaus.

One way is to apply for and use a secured credit card. A secured credit card is designed for people who have a bad credit rating. A secured credit card is backed by a deposit of money. If you pay your monthly credit card invoices promptly and in full every month, you will begin to raise your credit rating.

In summary, I have outlined a few effective ways to fix your credit score. With patience, usually around 5 to 7 years, you will see your credit score rise and those negative reports removed from your credit report. Remember to pay your debts on time in order to maintain and increase your good credit score.
